Fall Sports 2008

What a fantastic year all of our fall sports teams had! We had a very large number of athletes participating in all four fall sports and many of the teams had very successful seasons.

Our Swimming/Diving team had nearly 50 student athletes participating and the combined (boys’/girls’) varsity team placed third overall in the conference meet on October 10 at Mt. View High School. Our junior varsity athletes were impressive as well, in the individual and relay events at the Greeley Rec Center on October 3. Coaches Shaha, Hammer and Scott did a fantastic job.

The Heath Cross Country team battled injuries and illnesses to place in the top five for both boys and girls at the year-end conference championships at Sylvandale Ranch. This competition capped off a busy season of running for our impressive team of nearly 40 athletes. Coaches Weber and Polulech did a nice job with our dedicated runners.

The junior varsity volleyball teams improved incredibly through the season. Seeing how much they had improved from week one to week four was remarkable. Nice job Coach Markley! Our 7th and 8th grade varsity Volleyball teams made it to the “Final Four” tournaments held in Loveland on Saturday, October 10. Unfortunately, both teams suffered defeats and therefore finished third for the final standings. The 8th grade varsity had finished the regular season undefeated and the talent that is leaving, and going on to the various high schools is very impressive. Great work Coaches Gaspers and Towse!

Our junior varsity football teams had some tough competitions on Saturday mornings. Both teams finished the season strong and were much improved. A big thank you and pat on the back to the athletes and Coaches Wange and Hirsch! The 7th grade varsity team had some very close games this year. We won a defensive battle at Brentwood, but lost a real “nail-biter” to a tough Windsor team to finish second in the final conference standings. The 8th grade varsity team was impressive indeed! Their closest winning margin was a 24-point victory over John Evans. They are 2008 Conference Champions and therefore their team picture will be added to the “Wall of Fame” and another championship year will be added to the banners in the gym. Great job Coaches Nale, Collins, Spannring and Lechman.
