Discipline Policy

The student code of conduct policies (including dress code, academic grading & reporting, cell phones, standardized testing, tardies, make-up work, attendance, and violent/inappropriate behavior) accepted by Heath Middle School and District 6 will be followed and respected. Please refer to your student's planner for more information regarding each of these policies. 

Heath teachers will be using the "Boy's Town" model for positive behaviors and a "4 STEP Behavior Plan" for managing classroom behaviors. 

After teaching the desired behaviors and expectations:

• 1st Negative Behavior: The Teacher will conference with the student explaining the desired behaviors and rationale. 
• 2nd Negative Behavior: The Teacher will again conference with the student explaining the desired behaviors and rationale and make parental/guardian contact. 
• 3rd Negative Behavior: The Teacher will again conference with the student explaining the desired behaviors and rationale and make parental/guardian contact. There will also be a teacher consequence for the student (i.e. lunch detention, after school detention, before school detention). 

Teachers could use a Refocus Classroom:

Students who refuse to participate in refocus in their own classroom or continue their negative behavior will be sent to a fellow teacher's classroom where they are expected to complete their refocus worksheet before returning to the classroom. 

When a new class beings, Heath teachers expect students to be inside of their assigned classroom, prepared, and engaged in the day's lesson. At that time, all Heath teachers will close and lock their classroom doors. At this time, staff will sweep the hallways and escort any students not in their assigned classroom to the Dean of Students' office, where the student will receive their appropriate consequences. 

The consequences are as follows: 

• 1st - 2nd Offense: Parent Called
• 3rd - 5th Offense: Lunch Detention
• 6th - 7th Offense: 1 Day In-School Suspension (ISS); Parent Called
• 8th - 9th Offense: 2 Day In-School Suspension (ISS); Parent Called
• 10th Offense: 2 Day In-School Suspension (ISS); Attendance Contract; Parent Called

Students may feel free to request to use a pass during their class except the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of class. 

• Only one student will be allowed to leave the room at a time. 
• Students are allowed 24 passes per trimester. Adjustments will be made per teacher discretion.
• Student's Heath planners will serve as their passes. 
• If a student's hall passes are defaced or ripped out of their planner, they will not be considered valid.
• If a student loses or defaces their planner, they may purchase a new one in the Heath office for $10. 
• Medical issues will be accommodated with appropriate paperwork filed in the nurse's office. 
• Students must sign out before leaving class. 

For their classes, students will need to have the following items every day in order to be considered prepared:

• Heath Planner
• 8-Pack dividers for binder
• Pen (blue or black ink)
• 2 white, two-inch binders
• 1 zippered pencil bag
• Red pen
• Loose-leaf paper
• Pencil
• Pink, yellow & green highlighter

6th Grade

Late work will be accepted for full points during a given trimester (at teacher discretion towards the end of the grading period). Work form a previous trimester will not be accepted as the grading period has ended. 

7th Grade

Late work will be accepted for 50% of their earned credit up until the second to the last week of the trimester. Work from a previous trimester will not be accepted as the grading period has ended. 

8th Grade

Late work will be accepted within two weeks of the assigned date for 50% of their earned credit up until the second to the last week of the trimester. Work from the previous trimester will not be accepted as the grading period has ended.
